This year, thanks to the efforts of student Keira Gay (class of 2018), Ludlow High School formed a bowling club that competed against other area high schools in The Greater Springfield High School Bowling Conference, which is part of the Massachusetts High School Club Bowling Association.  The adviser for the LHS club is LHS Special Education teacher, Mr. Jonathan Mitchell.

According to Katerina Hagerty, LHS Bowling Club Coach, the mission of the conference is to integrate bowling as a sanctioned interscholastic high school club activity. The method to accomplish this mission includes the successful attainment of the following objectives: (1) To develop bowling programs for Hampden and Hampshire County High School students. (2) To develop Co-Ed teams at the High School level. (3) To elevate High School “club” bowling teams to “school sponsored” club bowling teams. (4) To develop the organizational and regulatory groundwork to satisfy the MIAA.

Hagerty explained that currently Sabis and Central High School in Springfield have an A and B team, Holyoke High School has a team and this year Ludlow High School started a club team.   The league sponsored ten matches that ran from December 2016 through February 2017.  Hagerty shared that the LHS club finished the season in placing 3rd out of 6 teams overall.

The annual high school state bowling championships were held on March 11th (teams) and March 12th (individuals) at Mount Greylock Bowl in North Adams. Hagerty was pleased to report that Keira Gay (2018) and Morgan Giebner (2017) qualified and participated in the  Statewide High-school finals. In addition LHS seniors Logan Giebner, Morgan Giebner, Ryan Garrity, and Blake Dalton were recognized at the event, receiving certificates from Heather Guzman, the District Director of the Massachusetts High School Club Bowling Association.

Congratulations to the members of the LHS bowling club for an outstanding inaugural year and a special thank you to Keira Gay for her accomplishment of making the bowling club come to fruition for LHS students.
