The 7th annual Desforges Walk/Run Challenge took place on April 29th at Ludlow High School. The event honors the fallen US Marine Joshua Desforges who was killed in combat in Afghanistan in 2010.

The monument constructed in remembrance of Sgt. Desforges bustled with volunteers, vendors, and participants. The memorial marked the start of the grueling race. Participants ran the 5K through rocky trails, completing Marine Corps exercises along the way.

The National Honor Society gathered to help organize the race. The members handed out water, directed the runners, and cheered them on.

Standing on the sidelines of the event, NHS Vice President Abby Potorski was inspired by the tenacity of the runners. “It was great to see people of all ages doing the challenge and supporting the family of Joshua Desforges,” she commented. “I had an awesome time encouraging the runners.”

Although some individuals might have doubts after witnessing the strenuous challenge, Potorski plans to participate next year.
